Last month I had the honor of meeting a very special little boy named Addison Kleinhans, his older sister Madelene and their parents Sarah & Kip. 3 years ago on April 6th, 2010 Addison’s world changed when he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. The past 36 months Addison has gone through daily chemo and medical procedures. In two months, Addison will have his LAST chemo on June 18, 2013!!!
I heard about Addison’s story through the North Metro firefighters Facebook page when they walked with Legacy High School students to support Addison’s fight with cancer. His story touched me so much, I felt like I NEEDED to help.
I reached out to Sarah to see if there was anything I could do. After talking back and fourth for a little bit, she mentioned that Addison loves the smell of sweet things when he’s going through chemo. Sarah also mentioned that Addison has saved all the stuffed animals that he has recieved over the past 3 years, because they mean so much to him. I instantly knew what I could do to help thanks to our Scentsy Buddies! A few days later, I was able to meet Addison, Madelene and Sarah for the first time when I brought over a Scentsy Buddy for Addison and Madelene; just in time too; as Addison was about to start his next dose of chemo. That night, I got a picture of Addison that made me smile, he was sleeping with his Scentsy Buddy and laying on a pillow with white and red blood cell stuffed critters close to him for good luck.Michael is traveling across the country doing these fundraisers and making a documentary about 12 cancer warrior children along the way. He has chosen Addison to be his Denver “honored hero”. Addison will be speaking at 5 and 7 about his personal cancer journey. The funds raised will help the Kleinhans family in their 38 month chemo journey as well as Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Team in Training.
